They say that one good deed deserves another. Mr. Lim, our neighbor, came to learn of our plight and stepped in to help. He stated simply that it was his turn to repay the kindness that my parents had shown to him in the past. Through his connections, Mr. Lim arranged for my father to consult a famous doctor. Not only was this doctor's diagnosis of my father's medical condition accurate, but he was also able to cure my father. Besides, he arranged for a loan for my father's business. He also told my brothers and I that we should not give up our education. He then arranged to finance our education as long as we needed it.

With the help of Mr. Lim, the situation in my family took a turn for the better. My father recovered from his illness gradually and his business recovered the next year. My father is now the proud owner of the village mini-market. Mr. Lim has expanded his business, too. My brothers and I are among the top students in the school. Whenever my parents met up with Mr. Lim, they would thank him for his past help. He would just shrug off their thanks and say simply that he was merely repaying a kindness. The children in both families have brotherly friendship now. The story between the Lim family and my family has proved a saying that kindness begets kindness.

Luckily, the man didn't seem to be angry. He just shrugged, smiled a bit and went to the room where my first lecture was about to take place. Quite a lot of people had entered the room, so I didn't care about having an unhappy experience with one of my future peers. I was embarrassed, however, when I finally learned that the man to whom I had been rude minutes before was our professor of the first lecture.  Professor Mathews turned out to be an excellent speaker and the lecture went really well. After the class was dismissed, I came to him to apologize for my bad manners earlier in the day. Professor Mathews said that he was not unhappy and on his first day as the student of our college, he was afraid and nervous, too. The incident helped me realize that I should not let emotional strain and anxiety prevent me from communicating with people openly and pleasantly.

The next morning Pinty jumped out of bed and ran to find his pencil, but it wasn't there. He searched everywhere, but there was no sign of it. And the sheet of paper on which he had drawn the little figure, although still full of rubbing out marks, was completely blank. Pinty began to worry, and he did not know if he had really spent the previous afternoon talking with the little man or whether he had dreamt the whole thing.

So, to settle the matter, he took a pencil and some paper and tried to draw a little man. It turned out not bad at all, except for a couple of jagged lines. He imagined his bossy little teacher telling him to round out those edges, and that it looked like he was trying to give him spots. Pinty gladly rubbed out those bits and redrew them. He realised that the crazy little teacher had been right: it made no difference whether you had the magic pencil or not; to manage to do things, you only needed to keep trying and to enjoy doing so.

Arriving at school, Jadarien met some of his classmates. His classmates asked him what he did at home when he was suspended for three days. He was a little embarrassed at first, but then he summoned the courage to describe to his classmates what he had done at home when he took three days off from school. He warned his classmates to work hard at school, not to break the rules, let alone talk back to teachers. Only in this way could one become an excellent student.

Hardly had the class been over when Jadarien approached to his teacher. He took the initiative to admit his mistake to the teacher and realized the seriousness of contradicting the teacher. At the same time, reported to the teacher in the reflection of the three days of harvest, and promised to abide by the school discipline, respect teachers, unite classmates, study hard, and finally be admitted to an ideal university.

The man touched Tess’s head and smiled. He told Tess that the money was the exact price of a miracle for her little brother. He took her money in one hand and he grasped her hand with the other hand. He asked her to take him to where she lived. He wanted to see her brother and meet her parents. He told Tess he had the kind of miracle she needed.

In fact, the man was a famous doctor. He promised to help the poor girl. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn’t long before Andrew went home again. Tess’s Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place. “That surgery was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost,” her Mom whispered. Tess smiled and she knew exactly how much the miracle cost—one dolar and eleven cents plus the faith of a little child.
